MICHIGAN LAKE SUPERIOR FOURTEEN MILE POINT VERY SECLUDED CABIN FOR SALE - BEST ACCESS IS BY BOAT! This stunning Fourteen Mile Point property is lying on Lake Superior's south shore, on Sleeping Bay. It is 22+/- Acres in size, and has 440+/- feet of frontage! Beginning at Fourteen Mile Point, a 10-mile shoreline sweeps eastward. This property is on some of the least accessible shoreline on the southern shore of Lake Superior. State highways don't reach this area, and access is by logging roads. Because of the relative inaccessibility of this area very little private development has taken place. There are only three private shoreline properties here, that are surrounded by thousands of acres of State of Michigan Lands. On some maps it is called the Mishwabic State Park. The State manages this forest with an emphasis on improving the forest cover.The logging which has occurred over the extensive area owned by the State leaves a relatively young forest composed of mixed hardwoods and conifers, and is attractive to woodland wildlife. The West Sleeping River and the Holland Creek wind slowly northward through the region until they unite just south of the property's south eastern corner, then they turn eastward to run parallel behind the beaches' barrier dune until they reach their outlet into Lake Superior. The cabin is located on a fine sand beach. Both to the west and east, the beaches vary from 50 to 75 feet in width, and stretch along the bay frontage between rocky sandstone points. Shallow waters cover the bay's sandy offshore bottom, and out a way there are several parallel sand bars. Behind the beach is a low barrier sand dune, rising only a few feet above the beach. Here, forest and beach meet. The terrain that lies behind the beaches in the wooded area, is level. The bays are anchored to the more resistant sandstone rocky points that periodically emerge along this shore. Fourteen Mile and Willard (or Wolf) Points are the most prominent points that protect the shoreline from Lake Superior's pounding waves. Just down the beach is a landmark Light House that was built in 1894 - this was once one of Michigan's magnificent lighthouse stations. It has been inactive since 1934, and was abandoned by the Coast Guard in the late 1940s. The square cylindrical brick tower was attached to a 2-story brick keeper's house. Gutted by fire in 1984, the main building was left in ruins. A wood assistant keeper's house survived the fire. The brick oil house and brick fog signal building also survived. In the early 1990s the property was purchased by individuals with hopes of restoring it. The 30x30 standard frame Cabin is supported by cedar posts. Beneath the cabin is a cubby for storage.
